Tried to Hold a Ghost

He is not gone, but soon he will be.
He’ll fade slowly from me
all over again.

I’m unsure why
I let him back in.
I should be used
to the disappearing act.

But have you ever tried
to hold a ghost?
You can’t.
There’s nothing left intact.

And I won’t lose
what’s left of me
chasing what
never comes back.

My heart will continue beating—
this is
my new ending.
